Singaraja . The 5th Bilingual Seminar of Mathematics and Natural Science was held, on 5th May 2023. With the theme “Cross-Cultural Communication: Exploring the Challenges and Opportunities,” this seminar intends to inspire the participants about the Challenges and Opportunities in cross-cultural communication. Cross-cultural communication refers to the exchange of information or any interaction between people of different cultural backgrounds and nationalities. Even within the same country, different locations can have cultural differences. Communication styles, standard norms of turn-taking in conversation, and accepted methods of addressing may all differ. So, in this seminar, the participants will explore the challenges and opportunities of cross-cultural communication.
Two speakers adorned the seminar was Ms. Ratih Ayu Apsari, a young and inspired lecturer now continuing her Ph.D. at Berkeley School of Education, Cluster Learning Sciences and Human Development at the University of California, Berkeley. And also, some students from each department in FMIPA; Ariyani Kumala Sari from Mathematic Education Study Program, Sathya Dewi from Biology Education Study Program, Devi Kristina from Physics Education Study Program, and Dinda Kusuma from Chemistry Education Study Program. Thpresentedent their ideas and experience about Language Barriers and Communication: How to Overcome Them; Intercultural Competence: Developing Skills for Effective Communication; The Role of Cultural Diversity in Study; and Communication Technologies and Cross-Cultural Collaboration. The participants of the 5th series of the bilingual seminar were the lecturer’s staff (all of the young lecturers in all of the study programs here), three students from each of the study programs in our faculty who are joining here in Ruang Seminar FMIPA, and the other students almost 100 joining online through zoom meeting.
The seminar directed its attention toward English as an International language and exploring the Cross Culture Communication by mastering English. This seminar was a regular program from the Mathematic and Natural Sciences Faculty that hoped to give the lecturer’s staff and students a chance to learn and share their ideas, insight, and knowledge on a specific topic.(fmipa)
