Singaraja – The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) at Ganesha University of Education (Undiksha) hosted the 2nd Annual Meeting and Consortium of the Leading University Project for International Cooperation (LUPIC) from October 20 to 22, 2024. This Event marked a significant milestone of six year of international collaboration Involving Ganesha University of Education (Undiksha), Indonesia University of Education (UPI), and the State University of Semarang (UNNES) and Sogang University, Seoul, South Korea. Initiated in 2023 and supported by the National Research Foundation Korea, with funding from the Ministry of Education Korea. LUPIC aims to improve science education in Indonesia, particularly in chemistry education. The program focuses on: (1) Enhancing chemistry education capacity, (2) Developing STEM-related education programs, (3) Implementing science teacher training programs, and (4) Establishing regional and social contribution networks programs. The second-year program, coordinated by FMIPA Undiksha, emphasized monitoring and evaluating its progress through workshops and integrated international conferences.
On day 1, conducted a workshop about Progress Report and Program EvaluationThe meeting commenced with a workshop featuring progress reports and mid-year evaluations and Representatives’s Presentations by Prof. I Wayan Muderawan, Ph.D., (Undiksha), Dr. Cepi Kurniawan, M.Si., (UNNES) and Dr. Triannisa Rahmawati, M.Si., (UPI). Prof. Won Koon Lee from Sogang University presented an evaluation, highlighting overall achievements in the collaborations’ goals.
On the 2nd day, The 15th International Conference on Appropriate Technology (ICAT) in collaboration with Korea Appropriate Technology Association. Day 2 fractured presentations and exhibitions: (1) Prof. Dr. Ida Bagus Nyoman Sudriam M.Sc., with the presentation Microlearning Core Chemistry Concept with Respect to STEM, (2) Prof. Dr. I Dewa Ketut Sastra Widana, M.Si., with presentation title Utilization of Plastic Waste and Silica-Based Materials for Non-Structural Precast Concrete Mixtures, and one poster presentation by Prof. I Wayan Muderawan, Ph.D., with the presentation themed Bali-Synwood: Synthetic Wood from Rice Biomass for Wood Carving and Handicrafts. The innovative product Bali-Synwood was displayed, showcasing synthetic wood derived from rice biomass for sustainable craftsmanship.
On the 3rd day, several activities took place: (1) Continuation of the 15th ICAT, featured keynote speakers and discussions on appropriate technology. (2) Research Laboratory Opening, the FMIPA Research Laboratory was inaugurated by Prof. Dr. I Wayan Lasmawan, M.Pd., the Rector of Undiksha, and Prof. Won Koo Lee. (3) Small Scale Chemistry Kit Training, a hands-on training session involving 20 high school chemistry teachers and 10 Undiksha chemistry education students, focusing on practical chemistry kits. (4) Community Service Program, themed “Empowering High School Students in Singaraja through STEM Integrated Project-Based Learning.” the program engaged students and teachers from four Singaraja high schools (SMA Negeri 1, 2, 3, and 4). (5) Focus Group Discussion (FGD) involved participants from UPI, UNNES, and Undiksha collaboratively addressing challenges and proposed solutions for program implementation in the second year. The 2nd LUPIC Annual Meeting underscored the consortium’s commitment to advancing science and chemistry education through collaborative innovation. The event successfully bridged academia and the community, setting a strong foundation for continued progress in the coming years.
