Singaraja – The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Science (FMIPA) at the Ganesha University of Education (Undiksha) organized a Guest Lecture with the theme “Ethnoscience in Science Learning,” featuring keynote speaker Prof. Dr. Sudarmin, M.Si., from the State University of Semarang. The event, which adopted a hybrid format, took place on Wednesday, November 6, 2024, from 09.00 WITA to 12.00 WITA, with the participants attending both in-person at the FMIPA Seminar Room and virtually via the Zoom Meeting platform. The Lecture attracted significant interest from students and the lecturers eager to deepen their understanding of ethnoscience.
This lecture highlighted the integration of traditional knowledge with modern science, emphasizing its important role in preparing students to tackle future challenges. Ethnoscience fosters the preservation of local knowledge while seamlessly combining it with contemporary science, resulting in holistic insight and relevant insights. This approach serves as a bridge, connecting younger generations with local culture while equipping them to compete on a global stage.
The keynote speaker stressed that ethnoscience is particularly relevant in Indonesia, a nation rich in cultural diversity. Through this approach, it is hoped that education quality can be enhanced and the younger generation can grow into responsible, critical, creative individuals with a strong sense of national pride. Beyond enriching scientific understanding, ethnoscience also instills character and local values in students, fostering a deeper appreciation for Indonesia’s cultural identity in their daily lives. This event underscores Undiksha’s commitment to integrating cultural heritage and modern education, ensuring that students are both rooted in tradition and ready for global opportunities.
