Singaraja. Undiksha’s Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) is always committed to maintaining an academic atmosphere to create superior, collaborative, and competitive human resources in the faculty while still prioritizing character aspects to maintain balance with the environment, and social and economic conditions to realize sustainable development. With this spirit, on Friday 29 October 2021, FMIPA again held an Academic Seminar which was followed by a Student Bilingual Seminar in the afternoon.
With the theme “Science for Sustainability” and “Humanising Science”, the Academic Seminar and Bilingual Seminar which were held yesterday generally aimed to increase awareness and understanding of the FMIPA academic community regarding the importance of science in supporting sustainable development. The seminar participants consisted of lecturers and representatives of 10 students across semesters from all study programs in the FMIPA environment.
In contrast to previous academic seminars, which were usually attended by speakers from outside, this year FMIPA is trying to provide broader opportunities for members of the faculty to share their ideas, thoughts, and creative ideas on the topic of Science for Sustainability. This seminar also involved more students as participants and speakers. The composition of speakers in the academic seminar which was held right the day after Youth Pledge Day consisted of 1 lecturer and 2 students.
Seminar activities started at 08.30 WITA with the playing of the national anthem Indonesia Raya followed by a group prayer. The event then continued with the committee chairman’s report and remarks from the Dean of FMIPA, Prof. Dr. I Nengah Suparta M.Si also officially opened the seminar activities. Entering the main activities of the academic seminar, the material was presented for the first time by Mr. I GedeArjana, S.Pd., M.Sc., RWTH (lecturer in the Department of Physics and Science Learning) with the topic MaterialScience for a Sustainable Future of Our Planet, which was then continued by Gede Wahyu Ariawan (student of the Department of Chemistry) and Luh Putu Tirah Liana Dewi (student of the Department of Physics and Science Learning) with the topic materialScience and Art. Wahyu and Tirah are representatives of FMIPA students who had the opportunity to take part in the Virtual Mobility Program University of Malaya.
In the afternoon, the Bilingual Seminar activity which started at 13.00 WITA was no less interesting with the presentation of material from 4 other students who also had the opportunity to take part. Virtual Mobility Program University of Malaya. The presentation in English was made for the first time by Ni Made Sudiyasih Parista (Department of Marine Biology and Fisheries) and Ni Luh Ayu Ardi Lestari (Department of Physics and Science Teaching) with the topicHumanising Science, followed by a presentation of the material with the title does Bioethics Play an Adequate Role? by Ni Made Pebriani Santika Dewi (Department of Marine Biology and Fisheries), which was then closed by Tamara Rahma Putri Kusuma (Department of Chemistry) with the title material how the Coronavirus Pandemic Inspires Us to be More Ethical at Work and in Life. The discussion went very interestingly, and the seminar activities were officially closed by the Deputy Dean I of FMIPA Dr. I Wayan Sukra Warpala, S.Pd., M.Sc at 15.00 WITA.
